For her price is far beyond rubies…
Last time, we looked at just a few character traits of the virtuous woman. Let’s keep in mind that we need to shed the worldly view of women as we read and study. Let us remember that the world views women in a far different light than our Heavenly Father.
Now, let’s begin by taking a look at the first few verses. “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10 From the start, our Father tells us that this particular woman is difficult to find, however, she’s so fair and rare that her price is far beyond rubies. This sparked curiosity in my soul, why so rare? Why is she compared to a ruby? After some reading, I marveled at the answer. Rubies are a very rare stone, they are the second hardest stone (next to the diamond) found on Earth. If you shine a light on a particular ruby, it may become glassy and you can see yourself in it. They are heavy and marvelous in color. They begin their life colorless, lifeless however, when the perfect element arrives, voila, you have a red ruby. Also, rubies must endure intense heat before they can truly be called a ruby. The creation of the ruby is a delicate process, a gentle mixture of time and element. Geologist cannot fully explain how they become what they become, but each agree, it’s rare and beautiful. What an astounding truth for the lady who has accepted Christ as her savior! Before salvation, we were without color, lifeless; however, by adding the blood, we transform into beautiful creations that are to be adorn. On occasion, if we allow Him, the Master shines His brilliant light on us and we should be polished enough to reflect His beauty. And, there will be those times when the trials of the Lord are hot and heavy but, deliverance is quick to come. Rubies are monetarily pricey; to have a ruby is considered to be special and unusual. Female rubies are priceless. Something not found everyday. She, you, are to be something to hang on to. A token that is looked upon as an amazing and lovely symbol, delicate and wonderful.
Ladies, is that how your husband, family, coworkers, and friends view you? We’re called to be something so rare that each person we encounter stops and knows that there is something different. Does your life and service add beauty to your loved ones (especially your husband)? Do others look at your husband and know that his wife adores him? Just as a ruby adds beauty to the one wearing it, do you add beauty to your husband? Does your husband adoringly look at you as a rare gem? Does he delicately put you on everyday? Do you give him reason to?
Unfortunately the society that we are living in teaches women, young and old, that men need to be dominated. However, your Creator tells you otherwise. Women, you are a helpmeet. Your husband is called into the spiritual career as the head of the home. Does your home reflect that? As you step back from yourself, begin to ask yourself, what’s my spiritual price? Do I withstand the heat and become that rare and valuable jewel or, do I sell out too soon to the worldly views and become ordinary? Our Father in Heaven doesn’t call us to be ordinary, rather extraordinary. We are to stand out as a ruby would stand out in a jeweler’s display case. Our lifestyle should make onlookers stop and awe at the beautiful colors and intricate designs. Further, they should see that beauty in our husbands as well. They should know that there is something different, something colorful something rare. What do people think of your display?
It seems as though some are down-trodden post election. Let me lift your heads up for you...
1. My God is bigger than any political office.
2. The plan and the story is still being written.
3. If you are a born again child of God, read the last book-- You are still victorious!
4. Jesus is still at the right hand of the Father making intersessions for you.
5. If you have accepted Christ, you're still on your way to Heaven.
6. This world is not your home. Don't get too attached.
7. Then he said unto them, Go your way , eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared : for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry ; for the joy of the LORD is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10
8. A presidential election doesn't phase my God.
9. So what if prophesy is fulfilled, if you are born again, you'll ride a cloud out of this world.
10. God is still good... regardless of the circumstances.
11. And the ransomed of the LORD shall return , and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away . Isaiah 35:10
12. Your promise of a mansion and rewards are still intact.
13. Did you wake up this morning? Then your faith is not finished, you still have work to do. There is a lost and dying world still waiting for salvation. Be busy about the Father's business.
14. You were chosen to live in this time period. Think about how humbling that is. Your Father in Heaven chose YOU because He knew you could handle it.
15. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Revelation 22:13
I'm reminded of that old song-- "I'm satisfied with just a cottage below, a little silver, and a little gold. But in that city where the ransomed will shine. I want a gold one that's silver lined. I've got a mansion just over the hilltop in that bright land where we'll never grow old. And some day yonder, we'll nevermore wander. But walk the streets that are purest gold."
Look it up, it's a good one.
It'll be alright... the book has been written, signed and sealed with the blood of Christ. Heads up, you can't see the return of Christ (whether it will happen in the next 10 or 1,000 years) with your head down. Your work isn't over... keep pressing on. Christ carried our cross all the way to the grave, this situation is quite small in comparison. Be glad in the Lord, I guarantee He knows what He's doing.
Let me step on my soap box for just one moment...
I hope each of you have prayerfully pondered on the right person to lead the country. No, I will not express my personal views, my husband and I have discussed it and have come to a decision for our household. I urge you to take Biblical principals and line them up with each candidate. The candidate that has more Biblical truths in their platform, I encourage you to vote for them. No, we can't control what goes on after election day. The platforms that each candidate stands on right now will inevitably crumble and be a big "well, what I meant was...". However, you have a responsibility as a resident of the United States to vote. Many men and women have died so that your voice may be heard. Not to mention that the Lord God Himself chose to bless you by putting you in a blessed nation with freedoms and liberties most Christians will never know. It's your Christian right to vote. Go to the polls, vote for the candidate you feel led to elect, push the button and be thoroughly pleased that this election is OVER!
I'll step off of my soapbox now.
By the way, I'm receiving at least 8 political calls everyday (except Sunday). I can't wait until tomorrow comes. No more dumb calls or mailings. Daggummit (yeah, that's not spelled right, consider the extra letters as emphasis)... if the money wasted on political junk was put towards our economy we would not be in the mess that we are currently in. :) Thank you very much.
The “modern woman” often times looks at Proverbs 31’s Virtuous Woman as out-of-date and out-of-touch. The fact of the matter is, what was true a thousand years ago in the Word of God is true and applicable in today’s world. The difference? It takes a little more effort. Through studying and the willingness to receive what God expects of women, the virtuous woman is obtainable. After all what’s wrong with trying to be the woman God has called you to be? Blessings await for the faithful.
To begin with, let’s take a look at what is so particularly special about this lady, and what our Heavenly Father expects of us. The virtuous woman demonstrates: unwavering faith, a strong and dedicated marriage, mothering gentleness, a hospitable spirit, dedicated service, a proper outlook on her finances, a diligent worker, an efficient homemaker, time management skills, and inward beauty only given by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Quite a list! Why? It’s God’s call to the woman to be the heart of the home, the quiet strength, the up-lifter, the joy of her husband, the blessing to her children, and the light for God; and as the months progress, we’ll pluck each characteristic to examine and look at practical daily application skills. It takes dedication to follow in her footsteps. Many times, I’ve stopped just to awe at her abilities and wonder how I would ever match up. After all, she managed to do all of these things at the same time. Mastering one or two is pretty obtainable but the whole list? Becoming the virtuous woman takes time and persistence. Why follow in this virtuous woman’s lifestyle? Because our Heavenly Father has expectations for every woman currently enjoying His creation. He chose this particular woman, plucked her out of her time period to show an example of what our potential can and should be. Though the time gap is large, Christ’s expectation continues for women. Though we may feel as though we are unable, our Father whispers words of encouragement and instruction to those who take the time to follow the example set before us.
I read this following passage not too long ago (in the midst of the financial down-fall of our economy) and it spoke such comfort to me. I hope it does the same for you.
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. Isaiah 35:4
At the end of the day, the stock market might crash, the electric bill may be late, your car may stop running, but “fear not”. The author of your faith will come and rescue you from this dieing world. Fear not, He will bring judgement, He will loosen the final rewards, He will step out of His home in Glory and extend a hand when you feel as though you are falling. He’ll catch you even when the government cuts the string. You’ll be alright. For whatever reason in days like these, when times are tough, I always think of the footprints poem. And, I remember that the Lord, God Himself has me snuggled up carrying me and my husband. Even though we may not have much, we still have our salvation. That’s enough.
